Philip Stark, MD

Second-year Resident

Philip Stark, MD, grew up among a family of physicians – his father, grandfather, and great-grandfather were doctors. Carrying on that legacy and wanting to work in a career that allows him to combine interesting science with the opportunity to directly help people on a daily basis were some of the reasons why he became a doctor.

Born in Karlsruhe, Germany, Dr. Stark moved to Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 9. He graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor of Arts with High Distinction in Economics. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine in Omaha.

Family Medicine goes beyond a surface-level interaction with patients, which was a major reason why Dr. Stark chose to specialize in it. He loves getting to know his patients and their personal stories, as well as having the chance to be involved with a wide variety of cases and procedures.

During his fourth year of medical school, Dr. Stark had the opportunity to do a rotation at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program and was impressed by the strong sense of community within the program. The faculty and residents made him feel like a part of the team from day one. Additionally, since Lincoln was his hometown and where he has lots of family and friends, he wanted to choose a residency program near them, and Lincoln Family Medicine seemed like a great fit.

When it comes to giving advice to his patients, Dr. Stark tells them to find a way to do a little bit of physical activity each day, and having fun while doing it is a bonus. He reminds them to never underestimate the impact happiness/mental health can have on their overall well-being.

In his spare time, Dr. Stark loves to play the piano and drums and listen to music. Noteworthy is that he was a drummer in the Husker pep band at UNL! He also enjoys LEGO building, playing soccer, golfing, cooking, and traveling (he’s been to 20 countries and 21 states so far). In addition, he and his brother run Stark Creations, a business specializing in handcrafted kitchen and outdoor knives.
